Executive Actuary Business Development 

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking an Executive Actuary: Business Development & Strategic Growth to provide strategic actuarial leadership in identifying, evaluating, developing, and commercialising growth opportunities across the insurance, healthcare, asset management, and adjacent market sectors. This role is responsible for leveraging actuarial, commercial, and strategic expertise to support market expansion, identify new revenue streams, develop innovative business opportunities, assess strategic partnerships, and drive sustainable shareholder value. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, combining analytical rigour with strong commercial acumen to influence strategic decision-making, shape long-term growth strategies, and support the organisation's expansion within both traditional and emerging market

Responsibilities & Skills: 

Strategic Business Development

  • Identify and evaluate strategic growth opportunities across insurance, healthcare, asset management, and adjacent markets.
  • Develop business development strategies aligned with long-term organisational growth objectives.
  • Support diversification initiatives through market expansion and innovation.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging markets to identify future growth opportunities.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership on growth priorities.

Opportunity Identification & Assessment

  • Lead the commercial and actuarial assessment of new business opportunities.
  • Develop and evaluate business cases for new products, partnerships, and market opportunities.
  • Assess commercial viability, profitability, scalability, and strategic alignment.
  • Conduct financial forecasting and scenario modelling to support strategic decision-making.
  • Evaluate the risks and returns associated with growth initiatives.

Strategic Partnerships & Ecosystem Development

  • Identify, establish, and strengthen strategic partnerships that support business growth.
  • Assess partnership opportunities from both commercial and actuarial perspectives.
  • Support the negotiation and structuring of strategic agreements.
  • Develop ecosystem-based growth initiatives to strengthen market position.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to build mutually beneficial partnerships.

Product & Proposition Innovation

  • Support the development of innovative insurance, healthcare, and financial solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance and expand existing product offerings.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, product, and commercial teams to bring new propositions to market.
  • Analyse customer needs and market gaps to guide innovation priorities.
  • Drive data-informed decisions on future product investments.

Commercial Growth & Value Creation

  • Support the achievement of revenue growth and profitability targets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer value and increase market penetration.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance shareholder value and long-term sustainability.
  • Assess acquisition, joint venture, and strategic investment opportunities.
  • Provide actuarial insights to support commercial decision-making.

Executive Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage executive leadership on strategic growth opportunities and initiatives.
  • Present business cases and strategic recommendations to executive committees, boards, and senior stakeholders.
  • Influence strategic decisions through evidence-based analysis and commercial insights.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to encourage collaboration.
  • Represent the organisation in strategic engagements with external stakeholders where required.

People Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop specialist teams where applicable.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, commercial thinking, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor actuarial and commercial professionals in strategic growth disciplines.
  • Build organisational capability in commercial analytics and opportunity assessment.
  • Promote collaboration across actuarial, commercial, and product teams.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Postgraduate qualification in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Qualified Actuary.
  • MBA or equivalent postgraduate business qualification (advantageous).
  • 10–15 years' experience in actuarial, commercial, strategy, or business development environments.
  • Proven experience in growth strategy, commercial evaluation, business case development, or corporate strategy.
  • Experience operating at executive or senior leadership level.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence strategic business decisions.
  • Experience within the insurance, financial services, healthcare, or asset management sectors (preferred).
  • Experience evaluating strategic partnerships, acquisitions, or other strategic growth opportunities (advantageous).
